Enjoy the music of Michael Jackson, combined with the visual effects magic of some of Hollywood’s best, as “Captain EO” returns to Epcot® in early July 2010.

With show-stopping musical numbers written by Michael Jackson, and stunning effects orchestrated by executive producer George Lucas and director Francis Ford Coppola, “Captain EO” is a sight and sound spectacular with an enduring message.

The classic musical spectacular thrilled Epcot Guests from 1986-1994, and also returned to Disneyland® Park earlier this year. The film’s return to the Imagination pavilion will provide new audiences the opportunity to experience the original 3D production for the very first time, as well as a nostalgic look back for longtime fans wanting to see Michael Jackson in a rare performance created for the big screen.

“Captain EO” is also scheduled to return to two other Disney Parks this summer, with openings planned at Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland Park in June 2010.

The ETX auditorium includes a 20% larger, floor-to-ceiling screen; 3-D technology; 12-channel audio and digital projection that delivers higher resolution than High Definition. The ETX auditorium opened in time for the premiere of “Alice in Wonderland” in 3-D on March 5, 2010.

On March 25, 2010, RIDEMAKERZ® will open a new limited engagement retail entertainment experience at Downtown Disney West Side. This store will let Guests build, customize and trick out their very own radio-controlled vehicles. RIDEMAKERZ will be open through fall 2010.

Building on the existing popularity of Tren-D at the Downtown Disney Marketplace, D Street will showcase edgy apparel, pop culture novelties and Vinylmation™ figures and collectibles.

Changes to Pirate League Experience

Disney announced today changes to the Pirate League Experience, which is a pirate makeover available in Adventureland.  The hours of operation for the Pirate League Experience are now 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (instead of 9 a.m.-7 p.m.).  But the biggest news is that the price of the base packages has been reduced to $29.95 (down from $49.95).  The reason:  the photo and map case are now an optional add-on for a $14.95 charge.  So if the photo wasn’t important to you, you can pay less for the package and take your own pictures.  The map case and map do include a cipher to decode a secret message, so that might be incentive to upgrade the package.  But now, it’s up to you whether or not you pay more for the optional items.  Here’s the official rundown on the PLE from Disney:

If you’ve not experienced The Pirates League, it’s an interactive experience that transforms boys and girls with a personalized Pirate look and name. They’re taught the official Pirates League Oath and how to “swash buckle.”

The Pirates League Packages include: Choice of Facial Effect, Reversible Bandana, Earring & Eye Patch, Sword & Sheath, Temporary Tattoo, Unique Pirate Coin Necklace, Personalized Pirate Oath, Official Pirate Name, Removable Teeth, and you get to participate in an Adventureland Pirate Parade. There are two packages to choose from: First Mate or Empress, so every Buccaneer & Pirate Maiden can join in the fun. Maidens don’t fret, instead of removable Pirate teeth, your Empress package also comes with vibrant and bold makeup, nail polish, and a face gem.

A selection of costumes for both kids and adults are available for purchase for an additional price. Call 407-WDW-CREW (407-939-2739) or visit disneyworld.com/crew to book your experience today.

Pinocchio and Snow White also join the parade this summer, aboard bright new floats.

A remarkably lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure of President Barack Obama enters the spotlight in a revised and refreshed Hall of Presidents show that recently reopened in the Magic Kingdom® Park at the Walt Disney World® Resort. The figure of the country’s 44th chief executive – which comes to life with recognizable mannerisms and makes comments that were recorded at the White House – is only part of a makeover so significant that the iconic attraction in the park’s Liberty Square has been retitled The Hall of Presidents: A Celebration of Liberty’s Leaders.Other updates to the “re-Imagineered” attraction which has been entertaining Magic Kingdom Park Guests since 1971:

  • A re-programmed Abraham Lincoln delivers arguably the greatest speech in the history of the presidency – the Gettysburg Address.

  • Developed with the assistance of Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, the show now tells a moving story of the bond between the presidents and “We, the People,” focusing on the chief executives who have guided America through trying, turbulent times.

Cat Cora to Open “Kouzzina by Cat Cora” at Boardwalk

(March 17, 2009) — Chef Cat Cora and Disney are joining together to open an exciting new family dining restaurant at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort.  Kouzzina by Cat Cora will feature a menu of Mediterranean-style cuisine that pays tribute to the chef’s Greek roots.

The restaurant, to be owned and operated by Disney, is scheduled to open by fall 2009 in the space currently occupied by Spoodles.

As a Mississippi native born to a family of Greek restaurateurs, Cora grew up immersed in two different and flavorful cultures , and has taken from that unique background the kitchen “know-how” handed down through generations.  The cuisine at Kouzzina (Greek for “kitchen” and pronounced “koo-zee-nah”) will showcase Mediterranean cuisine and Chef Cora’s philosophy to create simple yet sensational meals.

Cora said that the new restaurant will feature “time-honored recipes passed down from my ancestors, as well as my favorite Greek and Mediterranean dishes that my family loves.”

She began working with Disney in 2008 by creating a Disney Video on Demand series to showcase ways to help families develop more healthy eating habits. “I’m extremely excited about this latest extension of my relationship with Disney,” she said. “Together, we’re going to develop a truly amazing contemporary Mediterranean restaurant.”

The first and only female Iron Chef on Food Network’s hit show “Iron Chef America,” Cora is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. She also is Executive Chef for Bon Appétit magazine.  In addition to hosting the instructional cooking demonstrations for Disney Video on Demand, Cora has been a featured chef at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and at Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort.

“The American Idol Experience”  Comes to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

'THE AMERICAN IDOL EXPERIENCE' AT WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORTWith all the thrills and suspense that have made it a television and pop culture phenomenon, “American Idol” comes to Walt Disney World Resort in a groundbreaking new attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

“The American Idol Experience” captures the energy and excitement of the TV series, with some Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests auditioning to take the spotlight onstage, while their fellow guests cheer them on from the audience and vote for their favorite singer with instant results.

The attraction – grand opening Feb. 14, 2009 – was developed by Walt Disney Imagineering in conjunction with FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) and 19 TV Ltd.  Each show takes place in a 1,000 seat, indoor theater that features the twirling neon signs and a multi-layered backdrop inspired by the actual “American Idol” set in California.  Building on its hallmark of attention to detail, Walt Disney Imagineering worked with the Hollywood set designer who designed the actual TV show set for “American Idol.” The newly designed venue is the most technologically advanced theater found at Walt Disney World Resort.

“The American Idol Experience” includes an audition process open to Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests 14 and older (audition slots are limited and interested guests are encouraged to arrive early).  These guests perform live in front of a Disney’s Hollywood Studios casting director for the opportunity to be cast in one of the preliminary theme park shows that same day.
If shown to have that special “star quality” during the multi-step audition process, it’s on to performance training, hair and make-up. Then, the lights come up and it’s showtime for the singers as they try to impress an audience of theme park guests, plus a panel of three expert judges.
Fellow park guests will be able to enjoy the performances just like at a live television taping. Then, audience members vote for their favorite performance using the armrest touchpads, with their votes tallied to determine the top singer.
Performers with the highest votes during the preliminary shows will return for a high-energy, grand finale show that same evening. After their encore performances, the big moment arrives. It’s a super-charged, eye-popping scene as audience votes are tallied, the other performers drop off, music builds and the spotlight shines down, amid a blizzard of confetti, on the day’s top singer. In addition to their new-found theme park fame, the top vote-getter will receive “The American Idol Experience” Dream Ticket, which allows an eligible holder to schedule a front-of-the-line audition to a future regional audition for the “American Idol” television show. And every member of the audience can take a bow, too, because they had a role in deciding that day’s star.

The “Chocolate Extinction” dessert will certainly provide a satisfying ending to this dining experience. With a unique and family-friendly atmosphere, coupled with the extensive attention to details, T-REX Café is a treat for any Guest looking for shopping and culinary adventures. It’s dinosaur dining at its best.
